| The Salisbury VAMC in Salisbury, North Carolina is actively seeking a well-qualified Pathologist with strong leadership and interpersonal skills to serve as a Staff Pathologist at the Salisbury VAMC. There are no Recruitment Incentives associated with this position The Salisbury Health Care System (SVAHCS) is in the central piedmont region of North Carolina and includes the Salisbury VAMC (SBYVAMC), Charlotte HCC, Kernersville HCC, and the Charlotte CBOC. The SBYVAMC is actively seeking an experienced board-certified Pathologist with strong leadership and interpersonal skills to join us as a Staff Pathologist. The Salisbury VAMC laboratory started operating in our beautiful new 2-story building in 2019. As you would expect in a new laboratory, the equipment is excellent. The AP laboratory is staffed by seasoned Cytotechnologists and Histotechnologists. We perform surgical pathology, frozen sections, gynecologic cytopathology, non-gynecologic cytopathology, and ROSE. In-house cytology instrumentation includes Sakura Tissue-Tek Prisma Plus Automated Stainer, Hologic ThinPrep and Hologic Panther. In-house histology instrumentation includes Ventana Benchmark for special stains, Ventana Benchmark Ultra for immunohistochemistry, Ventana HE600 Automated Stainer, two (2) free-standing ergonomic exterior-vented stainless-steel grossing stations, and two (2) Leica ASP 6025 tissue processors. Clinical laboratory operates 24/7 and instrumentation includes a highly automated core lab, Immucor SPRCA blood bank automation, and sophisticated in-house microbiology instrumentation to include BioMerieux Virtuo blood culture, Vitek2 ID/AST, Vitek MS MALDI-TOF and BioFire FilmArray multiplex PCR as well as the Cepheid GeneXpert and Hologic Panther. Pathologists use Olympus BX43 microscopes. While some Physicians choose to live in Salisbury, most live in nearby communities including Charlotte, Concord, Kannapolis, Winston-Salem, Davidson and Mooresville. Duties include, but not limited to: Anatomic Pathology: Interpretation of surgical pathology, cytopathology, autopsy, immunohistochemistry, and cytochemistry. Clinical Pathology: Interpretation of clinical laboratory specimens to include but not limited to transfusion medicine, chemistry, microbiology, hematology, urinalysis, and coagulation. Perform Anatomic and Clinical pathology consultations when required. Although this is not a teaching service, may on rare occasion be required to supervise and teach medical students, residents, and fellows. Present pathology cases at medical conferences and tumor boards when requested. Always exhibit professional behavior when interacting with physicians, nurses, administrators, technologists, and patients. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 4:30, Incumbent will be expected to participate in call rotation; nights, weekends and Holidays Financial Disclosure Report: Not required |
