JOB SUMMARY
John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital (JHSH) of Cook County is the flagship of the Cook County Health & Hospitals System. The Level 1 Trauma Center is one of the most respected in the nation. The hospital treats over 150,000 emergency room patients annually. It is home to more than 300 attending physicians along with more than 400 medical residents and fellows.
Under the direction of the Cook County Health & Hospitals System (CCHHS) Chair of the Division of Pulmonary Medicine, the Pulmonary and Critical Care physician performs professional medical work in the medical, educational and research activities throughout the Cook County Health & Hospitals System (CCHHS). The physician works in the critical care units and on the pulmonary medicine consultation and ambulatory services as required. Manages critically ill patients and patients with pulmonary disease, as well as performing related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have a current Medical or Osteopathic doctor's degree to practice medicine in the state of Illinois
  • Must be licensed as a physician in good standing in the State of Illinois or have the ability to obtain prior to date of employment
  • Must possess an Illinois and Federal Controlled Substance license or have the ability to obtain prior to date of employment
  • Must possess an ACLS/BLS certification
  • Must be board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine or equivalent in Internal Medicine
  • Must be Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine with special certificates in pulmonary and critical care or be eligible for certification


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of modern principles, practices and techniques of pulmonary and critical care medicine, equipment, instruments and materials used in procedures relating to the specialty; principles, practices and techniques of general medicine.
  • Ability to diagnose medical or surgical problems and to prescribe treatment for conditions arising within the fields of pulmonary and critical care medicine.
  • Skill in the use of specialized laboratory equipment where appropriate, and demonstrated teaching and administrative skills
  • Skills needed to assess a project, develop and carry out a plan of implementation and maintain/manage the project to completion.

VETERAN PREFERENCE

When applying for employment with the Cook County Health & Hospitals System, preference is given to honorably discharged Veterans who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States for not less than 6 months of continuous service

* Attach a copy of their DD 214, DD 215 or NGB 22 (Notice of Separation at time of application filing. Coast Guard must submit a certified copy of the military separation from either the Department of Transportation (Before 9/11) or the Department of Homeland Security (After 9/11). Discharge papers must list and Honorable Discharge Status. Discharge papers not listing an Honorable Discharge Status are not acceptable

A copy of a valid State ID Card or Driver's License which identifies the holder of the ID as a Veteran, may also be attached to the application at time of filing.

*Degrees awarded outside of the United States with the exception of those awarded in one of the United States' territories and Canada must be credentialed by an approved U. S. credential evaluation service belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators (AICE). Original credentialing documents bust be presented at time of interview.

Must successfully meet the credentialing standards established by the Cook County Health and Hospitals System to include a State of Illinois MD license and any other license, certification, or specialized training, etc. no later than two (2) weeks prior to the candidate's start date
