JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Chair of the Division of Hematology and Oncology, the attending physician performs professional work in medical, educational and research activities. The attending physician is an expert in the care and treatment of patients with cancer and benign hematological conditions providing knowledgeable, compassionate, and holistic care to the patients they serve. Provides inpatient and outpatient and electronic consultative care in hematology and oncology. They participate in clinical trials to investigate new and better treatment strategies for patients with cancer. The physician will be credentialed in Internal and Hematology/Oncology Medicine at Stroger and Provident Hospitals of Cook County providing inpatient care. Ambulatory services may include clinical work at ambulatory sites other than the central campus.
Typical Duties
· Staffs out-patient care sessions in the sub-specialty clinic, providing direct patient care and supervising trainees.
· Provides care for in-patient oncology and/or hematology consult services.
· Supports care of patients throughout the CCHHS network through direct care, consultation, or electronic consultation.
· Sets standards and ensures the provision of consistent high quality care to patients with hematology and oncology disorders by educating, assisting and guiding primary care physicians.
· Supervises and trains hematology/oncology subspecialty fellows. Supervises and trains rotating residents and medical students. Supervises and collaborates with hematology/oncology nurse clinicians.
· Supervises Infusion Center chemotherapy nursing staff. Maintains accurate medical records. Maintains accurate and timely completion of billing encounter forms.
· Participates in the division performance improvement program and departmental and hospital performance improvement activities.
· Attends meetings and participates on committees as assigned.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
